Mission Statement

We promote, encourage and facilitate progress in the understanding and management of chronic idiopathic and secondary intracranial hypertension (IH). For patients, we provide a support system, educational programs and communication tools. For physicians and scientists, we sponsor research in basic and clinical sciences, education, training and patient care programs in the U.S. and worldwide.

Our Objectives

  • Make Research Happen.  Identify and support promising research opportunities, institutions and individuals, in order to delineate pathophysiologic mechanisms, causes, diagnostic tools and treatments modalities for IH.

  • Create Research Synergies. Establish methods to improve the quality of interdisciplinary communication among basic researchers, clinical investigators and epidemiologists interested in IH.

  • Support Patients. Provide education for IH patients, families and caregivers to improve access to appropriate healthcare, enhance their understanding of the disorder and facilitate communication among patients.

  • Build a Public Profile of IH. Enhance public awareness of the scope and severity of IH, the burden it represents on healthcare resources and the need for better-targeted public policy action.

  • Influence Public Policy. Increase recognition of IH and its social and economic impact among health policy planners, government officials and institutions and bring about a corresponding reallocation of healthcare dollars.

  • Create a Focal Point. Initiate planning for the establishment of a Comprehensive Care and Research Center dedicated to research, education, training and patient medical care, to serve as a worldwide focal point for IH issues and treatment.
